SHIP Shuttle Flight
When the Discovery space shuttle program back to run this summer, the network's mission telemetry and command center National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) - recently updated by Nortel, will enable a variety of information and important data, accessed simultaneously by Space Shuttle Discovery, International Space Station and NASA operations centers.
NASA ditransmisiskan various important data across the United States and international communications network via Nortel backbone routers. To support the mission of the shuttle, the network backbone, Nortel operates 24 hours a day to ensure there is no disruption to the flow of vital information. The same network system also supports the Mars Rover program, the Hubble Space Telescope and other NASA programs.
"Nortel PEC Solutions has a long experience in building highly reliable network," said Chuck Saffell, president, Nortel Federal Solutions. "This is ingrained. We are very proud to have the opportunity to apply our expertise in assisting the return of Space Shuttle mission for NASA. Our collaboration with NASA is another example of how Nortel is giving special attention to safeguard and protect the world's most important information. "
In addition the system plays an important role in NASA's Mission Network, Nortel PEC Solutions also use Nortel Mobility Solution at Kennedy Space Center, including the Nortel Wireless Mesh Network and platforms Operation Support System (OSS) which is provided by Pronto Networks. More than 2,500 journalists who will be present at the launch can use a wireless mesh network to report on the historic flight.
By using this network, the reporter who was in the NASA Press Site area of six hectares can flexibly use the laptop or mobile computer devices with wireless capability to access their Internet, e-mail, files and other applications. Designed to bring mobility to users, the Wireless Mesh Network allows its reporters to access securely and continuously into the Internet network when they move around the observation area, and to increase productivity because the reporters, in order to report the news in real time.

This solution provides secure network access and reliable," said Lindsay Schroth, senior analyst , Yankee Group. "People who need the ability to be connected where and whenever."
Nortel's Wireless Mesh Network solution uses wireless connections to connect access points in large open areas to provide a safe highway access to wireless broadband services. This solution is designed to enable companies and other organizations to install the Wireless Local Area Networks (LANs) in areas difficult to reach or too expensive when using a cable connection.
Together with Nortel's mobility solution, Pronto Networks' OSS platform that fully integrates a complete wireless network allows for 'go live' in just a few days. Key capabilities of Pronto Networks, which is used in the installation of this network in terms of technology including network users registration, verification, customer management network, a flexible billing system, which is owned customer portal customization, and network management from a distance. Pronto Networks provides all back-office services to the wireless network from the data processing center Pronto Networks in San Jose, California.
